Professor Qi Yaping Published His Latest Research on Chinese American Drama in Internationally Renowned Journal

Recently, Professor Qi Yaping from the SFS published the latest research on Chinese American drama in the internationally renowned journal Texas Studies in Literature and Language (A&HCI, CAS Q3), titled "Performing Race: Heterotopias in David Henry Hwang's FOB and Bondage". This research work is funded by the National Social Science Fund. Based on Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia and the referencing theory of heterotopic theater proposed by Joan Tompkins, this study interprets the heterotopic spaces in David Henry Hwang's FOB and Bondage. Specifically, the research analyzes the interaction of multiple spaces on the stage in the two plays from three spatial dimensions: "the constructed space" (mainly composed of geographical scenes), "the abstracted space" (mainly composed of mainstream discourse and the inner world of characters), and heterotopia (i.e., the liminal space composed of imagined space or bod  performance).
